"The strength of this book lies in its organization and writing style. Each chapter captures the essentials of hormone replacement in that particular field in about 8-20 pages. The relevant, up-to-date clinical studies are summarized, often in table or chart format, and are done so in a way that is easy to understand and apply. These strengths make this book an excellent reference in the clinical setting for any general internist, pediatrician, subspecialist, or surgeon...I thoroughly enjoyed reading many sections of this book and found it to be a superb and concise reference for the clinical management of patients requiring endocrine replacement therapy. This is essential in the field of endocrinology to provide clinicians with cutting-edge treatment of hormonal disorders."-Doody's Health Sciences Book Review Journal Reviews of the First Edition: "This is a comprehensive and well written review of a broad range of clinical protocols for treatment and monitoring of therapy of hormone deficiency states of the pituitary, parathyroid and vitamin D, thyroid, diabetes mellitus, and adrenal and gonadal systems. Some topics found here but not easily found in other books are the use of androgen therapy for HIV wasting syndrome and androgen replacemen in women... will appeal to the non-endocrinologist using hormones to correct various deficient states. "-Doody's Health Sciences Book Review Journal "...this textbook is unique in its focus on current hormone-replacement therapy for endocrine diseases ... the chapters are written clearly and provide up-to-date, practical, well-balanced reviews of the state of knowledge of hormone therapy. In addition, this book provides an objective overview of studies that explore potential novel indications for hormone therapy...Noteworthy features include helpful dosing algorithms for replacement therapy, with a wealth of tables that describe the indications for, effects of, and composition of various forms of hormone therapy available to date. Other useful features include tables that summarize the results of studies on controversial or new topics as well as extensive, up-to-date references...This textbook is a welcome addition."-The New England Journal of Medicine "The book is well written, with comprehensive reference lists in most chapters. It will be a valuable adjunct for endocrinologists including primary care physicians who may encounter these kinds of patients and would like to know additional details before referring them on to specialists. It may be a valuable addition to the bookshelf of endocrinologists, internists, and primary care physicians, given that it could be the only book with this particular orientation --I do not think I have seen another devoted specifically to the replacement of hormones in this broad range of deficiency states."--- Trends in Endocrinology
