This pack contains 6 copies of ELS Progress: Apply Book 2. This activity book lets pupils apply the phonic knowledge they are gaining from ELS Progress.Apply Book 2 goes with the first six Rise books in the ELS Progress programme. These are:• Shackleton: Rainforest Adventure• Incredible Art• Great Escapes!• Isaac and the Toxics: Shocking Creatures• Cats, Cats, Cats!• Breaking RecordsThe Apply Book's activities build on the Rise book that a pupil has just read. Varied activities provide phonics practice, as well as developing comprehension and vocabulary skills. In addition, new short decodable texts offer further reading practice. For example, pupils will read about an interesting artist after reading the book Incredible Art. Or they will read about a day in the life of a dice snake after reading the book Great Escapes. The practice and application will firm up their skills and knowledge of sounds, and keep them progressing.All the text (including instructions) that is meant for pupils to read is fully decodable, aligned with the ELS progression. Text for children to read is also at the same reading level as the Rise book it goes with (Oxford Reading Levels 5–6). These Apply Books are made for pupils to complete with a supporting adult, but they also include opportunities for independent work.Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS) is a Department for Education validated synthetic phonics programme, developed by the Knowledge Schools Trust English Hub to help children learn to read quickly and confidently.Structured around daily lessons and matched to the progression of the original Letters and Sounds framework, ELS provides a clear, systematic approach to phonics.
