Across the globe, major concerns have been raised about how about the dissemination of false, inaccurate, or misleading information is affecting elections. The phenomenon is posing a threat to voter trust and satisfaction, perceptions of electoral actors and voter turnout, vote choice, and other forms of political activity. This book focuses on the responses of liberal democracies to these threats and provides a framework for understanding disinformation in the electoral process. It analyses case studies from across the Global North and South, considering the various approaches to address electoral disinformation, from the informal strategies of electoral management bodies to formal regulation through legal mechanisms. Holly Ann Garnett is the Class of 1965 Professor in Leadership and a Professor of Political Science at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario, and Co-Director of the Electoral Integrity Project. Toby S. James is Professor of Politics and Public Policy at the University of East Anglia, UK, and Co-Director of the Electoral Integrity Project. Sally Broughton Micova is Professor of Governance and Public Policy at the University of East Anglia and Academic Co-Director at the Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE).Sofia Caal-Lam is Researcher for the Electoral Integrity Project, Canada & UK.
