Is the Renaissance an outdated "Eurocentric" concept or the West’s success story? Did it only comprise male elites? Did it lend legitimacy and a facade of respectability to the world’s subordination by European colonial powers? This book intends to take these objections seriously, searching for renaissances outside of Europe and the reception of the Italian Renaissance in its global dimensions.
