Dr. Solomon Baevskii was born in Belarus in 1923, and wounded at the Battle of Stalingrad in 1943. After graduating from Leningrad University (now St. Petersburg), as Persian bibliographer at the Oriental Institute he published catalogues and studies of Persian dictionaries until his emigration to the US in 1993. He lives in retirement in Minnesota.John Perry was born in the UK in 1942 and took a PhD in Arabic and Persian from Cambridge. Since 1973 he has taught Persian and Tajik at the University of Chicago.Alexander Vovin, Professor of East Asian Languages at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, has published extensively on Japanese, Ainu, Korean and Tungusic, as well as other languages of East and Inner Asia.
