From the reviews: "The editor is known internationally for his contributions in this field... The operative preparation of the patient is very well covered and perhaps the most important information for the reader. All topics, from aspects of patient positioning to special surgical instruments are dealt with in great detail... The push by the authors to popularize the lateral approach to the hip in order to give better visualization of the posterior surfaces of the hip joint may attract more surgeons to perform hip arthroscopy over open arthrotomy. This book is the best I have seen on the subject. I strongly recommend it to all orthopedists and, particularly, sports medicine physicians caring for patients with hip disorders. (4 Stars)" (Doody's Review) "This volume is related to diagnosis and treatment of hip disorders and hip arthroscopy. ... An adequate comprehensive approach is proposed ... . The authors ... detail in well-illustrated chapters the indications and technique ... . this book should be recommended for hip surgeons, as it gives consistent information and rationale data ... . It can be strongly recommended as a basic source of information for technique of hip arthroscopy. ... should be used extensively and would constitute a 'gold standard' to assess in young patients conservative procedures as well as hip replacements." (H. Migaud, Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, Vol. 26 (1), 2004) "In this well-organized and extremely well-illustrated textbook, Dr. McCarthy ... and his contributors provide a complete review of differential diagnoses, physical findings, and imaging options for a wide range of early but disabling hip disorders. ... a helpful resource not only for those with an interest in the technical aspects of arthroscopy itself but also for all orthopaedic surgeons ... . The authors have done an excellent job ... . practicing surgeons will find that the information contained in this excellent text is very useful ... ." (James P. McAuley, Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, 2004) "Mc Carthy and 27 internationally renowned contributors are the Authors of this Book. Their work on early hip disease is well documented and brilliantly illustrated. ... This book deserves a place in every orthopaedic library." (G. Alexandre, Acta Orthopaedica Belgica, Vol. 69 (5), 2003)
