Ealing: A Potted History

Dr Jonathan Oates has been Borough Archivist for Ealing since 1999 and has had over twenty books published, mostly about aspects of London's local and criminal history. He has also given numerous talks about Ealing's history. He received his PhD in History from the University of Reading in 2001. Paul Howard Lang has worked for Ealing Library Service since 1966 and has been hospital librarian at St Bernard’s Hospital since 1982. After carrying out research into the history of the hospital, he developed a great interest for local history and has subsequently given many talks on a variety of topics to a large number of societies. He is Chairman of the Surbiton Historical Society, and has been for the last seven years, and also Programme Secretary of the Epsom and Ewell History and Archaeology Society as well as on the committee of the Kingston upon Thames Archaeological Society and Acton History Group. He also featured in an episode of Michael Portillo's Great British Railway Journeys, talking about the advanced-thinking Victorian Hanwell Asylum Superintendent John Conolly. An avid postcard collector, Paul has three published books to his credit.

'Ealing: A Potted History promises to become a go-to introduction to the borough’s heritage — a concise, lively and affectionate portrait of a place that has continually reinvented itself while retaining a strong sense of identity.'
