This new edition includes comprehensive literature updates in every chapter, drawing upon the considerable clinical and conceptual advances that have occurred in the field over the last decade. The authors have advanced and expanded upon the dual recovery model, but have retained some of the strongest elements of the first edition, such as modified stepwork exercises for a variety of psychiatric illnesses. They have also retained their clear and descriptive style. Of all the books I have seen, this is the best comprehensive textbook for addiction counselors wishing to develop competency in dual diagnosis. It is also wonderfully accessible for frontline mental health counselors and case managers. --Ken Minkoff, MD, Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Cambridge Hospital, Woburn, MassachusettsThis comprehensive examination of the complex relationship between addictive disorders and other psychiatric conditions will meet the needs of a wide range of audiences. The authors combine research-based recommendations with a richness of detail and insight about the most prevalent coexisting disorders. They write with a vividness that can only be achieved by seasoned clinicians. The book will serve as a valuable guide for practitioners in different disciplines and as a textbook for graduate and postgraduate training. --Joan E. Zweben, PhD, Executive Director, East Bay Community Recovery Project & The 14th Street Clinic, Oakland, CA; Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, University of California, San FranciscoEvans and Sullivan have done it again--provided a practical, clinically useful book on the treatment of a variety of dually disordered conditions.
