Dr William Rhys Lambert was educated at the University of Wales, Swansea.After completing his PhD thesis on the temperance movement in nineteenth-centuary Wales, he taught history for three years at Jones' West Monmouth School, Pontypool. Since 1972 he has been responsible for historical subjects at the University of Oxford Delegacy of Local Examinations where he is now Senior Assisstant Secretary.
