Donald Michie was an extraordinary character. Ashwin Srinivasan received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 1991. In 1991 he joined the Turing Institute, Scotland. From 1993, he was a member of the Oxford University's Computing Laboratory, where he was involved in pioneering applications of logic-based machine learning to difficult real-world problems in biology and chemistry. In 2003, he moved to the IBM India Research Laboratory in New Delhi as a Research Staff Member. He is the recipient of several awards and fellowships, and is regularly invited to present work on machine-assisted methods for scientific knowledge discovery.
