Heidi Lourens is a counselling psychologist and associate professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Johannesburg. Being completely blind herself, her research interests include disability studies, inclusive education, and the lived experience of disability. In 2025, she received the prestigious Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award from the University of Johannesburg.Brian Watermeyer is a professor at the Division of Disability and Rehabilitation Studies in the Department of Global Health at Stellenbosch University. A clinical psychologist with severe visual impairment, he completed his doctorate in psychology at Stellenbosch. He edited South Africa's first major disability studies text, Disability and Social Change: A South African Agenda (2006), and authored Towards a Contextual Psychology of Disablism (2013). His latest book is The Palgrave Handbook of Disability and Citizenship in the Global South. He has published widely and taught across disability studies, psychology, medicine, and rehabilitation science.
