Devil Overlords

What would you do if you lived in a haunted house, and the undead residents kept harassing you to the brink of Insanity? Mary Sims is tired. Tired of being haunted by ghosts, demons, devils, and all the other supernatural frights that go bump in the night. Abandoned by her family and struggling to make ends meet, she lashes out at her haunters demanding they PAY RENT! To her astonishment, they do. Mary, joined by her best friend Lili, sets out to become Devil Overlords by charging rent to the supernatural beings that live at a dilapidated plantation. Either they collect their due, or there will be Hell to pay.

Devil Overlords is an illustrated supernatural fantasy adventure novel about two girls who decide to take their destinies and finances into their own hands by embarking on a venture to become Devil Overlords. The concept of ghosts paying rent came from my thoughts about the afterlife. Is the world filled with ghosts constantly watching us? Do they find the day-to-day interactions of the living interesting, and are my personal struggles and celebrations popcorn worthy? If so they need to 'Pay Rent!'. If anything would go bump in the night or there were unexplained noises in the house I'd yell 'Pay Rent!'. My family caught onto this and it became a regular expression in our household. I applied this to Devil Overlords and my story began to take shape.
