"The coverage of calcium and bone is outstanding, being detailed, highly informative, wide-ranging - and dense! I was also highly impressed by the chapter on sexual differentiation, which is a model of clarity, well diagrammed and both informative and authoritative on clinical topics such as sex assignment. The chapter on precocious puberty is valuable for the clinician, as is the one on delayed puberty, which covers molecular and developmental aspects as well as clinical management. The final section of hypothalamic pituitary-adrenal development and genetic defects in steroidogenesis really is the icing on the cake, and completes what is a very impressive volume. the book is, above all, a valuable source of information for the reader, both scientist and clinician, who has specific questions to answer. Overall, is succeeds in fulfilling the editors' stated aims" -The Endocrinologist "The book presents an intensive evaluation of the genetic and molecular bases of developmental aspects of several endocrine systems, and the relationship of the new data to clinical medicine. The contributors are leaders in the field and each chapter is extensive and well documented. Developmental Endocrinology is packed with information, well referenced and well integrated with established concepts that form the physiological basis of endocrinology." - TRENDS in Endocrinology and Metabolism "Highly recommended to endocrinologists, neonatalogists and geneticists." -Eugster
