Malgorzata Bugaj teaches at the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Open Learning and is an Affiliate Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities. She has published book chapters and journal articles on the embodied film theory as well as Eastern European and avant-garde cinema. Her current research brings together film studies and medical humanities, with focus on ageing and neurodegenerative disease. She has presented extensively on these topics. Bugaj has a strong interest in the public engagement aspect of medical humanities and film, and has been actively involved in diverse initiatives that that extend learning beyond academia, such as recent events “Speaking with Care: Rethinking Narratives around Neurodegenerative Conditions” (IASH) and “Science and Film” (public film programme as part of Edinburgh Medical School 300th anniversary). Michael Stewart is senior lecturer in film and media at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. His main areas of research are film genre, film melodrama, and ageing masculinity in film. He has published on these topics in various journals and books, including recently, on Toni Erdmann (2016) in Ageing Masculinities in Contemporary European and Anglophone Cinema, T. Tracy and M. Schrage-Früh (eds), 2022, and on Calvary (2014) in Studies in European Cinema 16(2), 2019.
