Mer information
Ishmael lives with his wife in Brisbane, Australia. He's been writing since 1996, with many short and flash fiction published prior to approaching Temple Dark Books with his debut novel, Sha'Kert: End of Night. In this multi-perspective first-person POV, Ishmael's writing is genuine and heartfelt, insightful and raw. He weaves a tale of desperation, isolation, separation and - ultimately - discovery that manages to comment on the ills and obligations of modern society while screaming at us to find our own reason for living.Sha'Kert: End of Night was well received by Publishers' Weekly, and was nominated for the prestigious Ditmar Award by none other than Ion Newcombe, the editor and publisher of Antipodean SF, Australia's longest-running online speculative flash fiction magazine. Ishmael now takes us to Descent, an epic story of fate and hope in a dark future.

Murray Samuelson: "...truly mind-blowing...if you read the first one, don't miss this one. If you haven't, this series is well worth checking out, it's an impressive saga of science fiction and humanity...reminds me of Robert Heinlen's writings...can humanity be saved from their follies by interstellar flight, and are they worth saving? And if so, should it be everyone, or just certain types of individuals? As he did so well last time, the author weaves these questions into the narrative...The genius scientist-turned-saboteur Maria plays a large role in the story, as her presence on the Saturn mission has the potential to alter the fate of humanity. It's a skill to make 'bad' characters sympathetic to a degree, and Soledad does it very well. Book discussion clubs would have a bonanza with this series...one hell of a space yarn. Definitely recommended."Irish Times: "Diathesis [sets] in train a number of fascinating themes that parallel our contemporary concerns..."Irish Examiner: "...an incredible, sweeping opening to what promises to be a truly epic series...strikingly pertinent in the face of current technological and cultural developments..."Allen Stroud, BSFA Chair: "...a very clear sense of the main characters...we can see how they are on a collision course with one another...a well written start to a longer story."Monster Librarian: "...a quantum leap forward in science fiction writing...a phenomenal tale of science and the ethical questions that come with it..."Scott Arbuckle: "Soledad is back at work in his field of excellence; a space opera in a future both bleak and hopeful."Even Angels: "...a gripping, thought-provoking, and emotionally intense science fiction novel that immerses readers in a world teetering on the edge of darkness and revelation..."Adrian Fletcher, BFS Review: "...strong characters, from a diverse set of backgrounds, reflecting how the issues it raises impact the world...balance between cosmic scale and personal stakes adds weight to the story...the genetically engineered children is a particular standout...one to look out for."
