De Bello Civili I

Originally published in 1955, as the second edition of a 1940 original, this book contains the Latin text of the first book of Lucan's Pharsalia or De bello civili, in which Caesar crosses the Rubicon to march on Rome. Getty provides a biography of Lucan, an assessment of his ostensibly hero-less epic, and the historical sources informing the narrative, as well as explanatory notes on the text and a critical apparatus.
