This text contains a selection of papers presented at an international conference held in Rotterdam, in June 1991. It includes 11 papers from many leading maritime analysts, and should be of interest to shipping professionals and students in the field. It addresses three major areas of interest: the rapidly changing international context; the relationship between market structure and the workability of competition; and the decision processes of firms in the changing shipping world. Together, these papers aim to provide a broad presentation of both the issues and the style of analysis adopted by many of the world's leading maritime economists.
