Conservation and the Use of Wildlife Resources

Wildlife utilization is commonly referred to as good or bad strategy for conservation when, in fact, the circumstances of use are so diverse that generalizations are not easy to support. The purpose of the book is to show that utilization schemes can be good, bad or mixed from a conservation viewpoint. The important thing is to determine the factors which contribute to success. The book will thus introduce the subject of wildlife utilization and, based on a small but careful selection of case studies, will reveal the range of circumstances and animal types involved. A synthesis will attempt to determine the criteria for success as well as the pitfalls and constraints.
