Paul Mertenskötter holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from New York University School of Law, and has completed his doctoral work at Humboldt-University of Berlin. He did his undergraduate work at the University of York (B.A., first class with distinction and recipient of PPE finals prize) and the University of Pennsylvania. He has received the FAZIT Foundation PhD scholarship, various scholarships from the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung), and NYU Law's Jerome Lipper Award in International Legal Studies. He was a law clerk at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and a Visiting Scholar at the WTO.
