Dr. Diego Gomez-Casati is a senior academic and research scientist at the Centre for Photosynthetic and Biochemical Studies and Professor of Chemical Biology at the National University of Rosario, Argentina. He is PI of the Plant and Algae Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Laboratory and Vice-Director. Dr. Gomez Casati has a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires. He was a visiting scientist at California State University, Fullerton, USA, Laboratoire Microbiologie Cellulaire et Moleculaire et Pathogenicite, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), Université Bordeaux-2 and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He was also Professor of Plant Biotechnology at the National University of San Martín (UNSAM). Dr. Gomez-Casati’s research interests include the study of the structure, function and regulation of polysaccharide metabolism enzymes and their biotechnological applications. He has published over 85 research papers, reviews and book chapters, most related to the biochemical characterization of enzymes of energy metabolism. Dr. Natael Maximiliano Wayllace is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for Photosynthetic and Biochemical Studies (CEFOBI-CONICET), National University of Rosario, Argentina. He obtained his PhD in Biological Sciences in 2024, where he discovered and characterized novel microbial enzymes, with a particular focus on extremophilic systems, including cold-adapted and thermostable glucoamylases. His research combines biochemical and kinetic characterization with computational modeling to investigate enzyme adaptation mechanisms and structure–function relationships. Dr. Wayllace has authored several peer-reviewed publications on microbial enzymes, including studies on the structural and functional properties of cold-active glucoamylases. He has extensive university teaching experience and has supervised undergraduate students in biotechnology. His expertise in cold-adapted enzymes, enzymology, and protein engineering, is complemented by his academic contributions as reviewer and thesis examiner.
