Her groundbreaking work in the1940s and 50s set the standard for the appearance of women's magazines in ensuing decades. Now Pineles, whose archive is held at Rochester Institute of Technology Special Collections, is the subject of this second publication inthe RIT Graphic Design Archives Chapbook Series. This volume's vibrant reproductions of pen-and-ink sketches, fashion layouts, and gouache illustrations will orient readers to RIT's extensive Pineles Collection. The book also introduces Pineles's personal history through essays by Estelle Ellis and Carol Burtin Fripp.ESTELLE ELLIS is the author of a number of books and the co-founder of Seventeen magazine. In 1992 the Smithsonian established an Estelle Ellis archive in the National Museum of American History.CAROL BURTON FRIPP is the daughter of designer, Will Burtin. She is now a producer at Canada's TV Ontario.
