Up to now the teaching on baptism in the Holy Spirit has been based on a few scriptural texts, whose interpretation was disputed. Kilian McDonnell, OSB, (1921–2025) was a priest, theologian, and monk of Saint John’s Abbey, Collegeville, Minnesota. He received his STD from the theological faculty of Trier, Germany, and taught at the Saint John’s University School of Theology. He was the founder of the Collegeville Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research at Saint John’s University and the author of several books, including five volumes of biblical poetry published by Liturgical Press.George Montague, S.M., professor of theology at St. Mary's University, San Antonio, is the author of scriptural books, including The Holy Spirit: Growth of a Biblical Tradition. He is past-president of the Catholic Biblical Association of America, a former editor of the Catholic Biblical Quarterly, and a consultant of the National Service Committee for the Charismatic Renewal.
