Chinese Economy under Transition

SARAH COOK is research fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex. Her research focuses on the social and micro-level impact of economic reform in China, and includes work on labour markets and employment in rural China, rural social welfare reform, poverty and gender. Publications include articles in Journal of Development Studies and Oxford Development Studies. SHUJIE YAO is reader in economics and director of development economics research, University of Portsmouth (UK). He has worked as a consultant for a number of international organizations, including the World Bank, the European Union, and the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in many different countries in Asia and Africa. He is the author of Agriculture Reforms and Grain Production in China, and co-author of Economics Reforms and State-Owned Enterprises in Chinas, 1981-87. JUZHONG ZHUANG is economist in the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He was previously research officer at the London School of Economics. His research covers development economics, industrial economics, and transitional economics. He has published articles in Economica, Economics of Planning, International Review of Applied Economics, and Asian Pacific Business Review.
