Emma Wilson brings her keen powers of observation and critique to filmmaker Céline Sciamma’s rich explorations of the pain and glory of women’s love for other women. Wilson situates Sciamma’s films in a wide and varied web of influence, from Ovid to contemporary feminist and queer theory, from Eric Rohmer to Lucrecia Martel, from Nan Goldin to Carrie Mae Weems. Wilson brilliantly demonstrates that Céline Sciamma’s achievement is nothing less than a rethinking and reimagining of the cinema in feminist and lesbian terms.
