Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death worldwide with 3.8 million men and 3.4 million women dying each year. Cardioprotection refers to the prevention of CHD and the clinical improvement in patients suffering from cardiovascular problems. This book focuses on the role of cardioprotection in surgery and the use of pharmacological therapies such as ACE-inhibitors, statins and beta-blockers in order to reduce the myocardial injury sustained by the patient and the significant risk of morbidity and mortality. It includes new cardioprotective strategies aimed at improving the clinical outcomes of patients in these settings, as well as current well-established methods for reducing myocardial injury in acute coronary syndrome patients.
1. An introduction to cardioprotection ; 2. Primary prevention of coronary heart disease ; 3. Percutaneous coronary intervention and thrombolysis in AMI and other ACS ; 4. Anti-platelet and anti-thrombotic therapy post-AMI ; 5. Coronary no-reflow and microvascular obstruction ; 6. Optimal Medical Therapy Post-AMI ; 7. Cardioprotection during cardiac surgery ; 8. Endogenous mechanisms of cardioprotection ; 9. Adjunctive reperfusion therapy post-AMI ; 10. Stem cell therapy post-AMI ; 11. Novel cardioprotective strategies
The editors and contributing authors are distinguished experts in experimental and clinical aspects of acute coronary syndromes...I would recommend Cardioprotection to anyone with an interest, experimental or clinical, in the scientific and medical challegne of myocardial infarction.
