Beskrivning
By placing his work in dialogue with Classical and Romantic writers, this collection presents new discoveries about Byron’s uncanny writing process, complex manuscripts, unique language, and unexpected influences. This open access book explores the most significant writers who influenced Lord Byron’s singular career. Assembling some of the most distinguished scholars in the field, contributors suggest that Byron’s works remain central to new developments in literary criticism, theory, and technologies – particularly in the fields of textual studies, book history, and the digital humanities. The impact of new digital resources, such as Google N-gram data and newly discovered digital archives, is reflected in all the contributions, placing this collection at the cutting edge of work today. At the same time, these resources have sharpened how we read Byron among his contemporaries: Robert Southey, Samuel Rogers, Thomas Moore, Walter Scott, and, from earlier generations, Pope, Dryden, and even Francis Bacon.Across 10 chapters, Byron emerges as a critical focal point, poetic innovator, and social catalyst. With each chapter representing a different stage of Byron’s career, Byron and His Others constitutes a compelling, dialogic conversation on why Byron still matters so much in literary studies. The ebook editions of this book are available open access under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license on Bloomsbury Collections.
