Boria Sax teaches at Sing Sing prison and online in the graduate literature programme at Mercy University. He has published numerous books, many of which have won awards and been translated into multiple languages. His most recent is Enchanted Forests: The Poetic Construction of a World before Time (Reaktion, 2023).

Entomologists have identified only one-tenth of the estimated ten million insect species in existence today. It's not surprising then, that humans' relationship with insects is full of mysteries. In the first millennium BC, Chinese sage Zhuang Zhou dreamt himself to be a butterfly. Awaking, he asked whether he was really a man, or a butterfly dreaming himself to be a man? Hence the title of author Boria Sax's intriguing meditation on insects. Without these species, he argues, "we could not be very 'human' at all".
