Bowie Odyssey 77

The eighth volume in Simon Goddard’s epic adventure through Bowie’s greatest decade.Where is David Bowie? Nowhere to be seen in 1977, keeping a deliberately low profile like the cover of the new album he refuses to promote, choosing instead to duck out of the spotlight playing keyboards for his partner in crime Iggy Pop.But as David loiters in the shadows, Death is hungry for big celebrity game. Could it be “the Boppin’ Elf” in his purple mini? The drug addicted “El Cheeseburger” in his Memphis mansion? The “Old Groaner” teeing up on the golf course? Or the 30-year-old Starman in hiding singing about dolphins by the Berlin wall? The eighth instalment in Simon Goddard’s Bowie decalogy, Bowie Odyssey 77 drives the series full speed towards its conclusion – a densely plotted ensemble drama threading the year of “Heroes” between the last days of Marc Bolan, Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby and John Lennon in a breakneck tale of mortality and stardom.
