Autism in Complex Presentations

Autism in Complex Presentations brings together international clinicians and researchers with expertise across a range of neurodevelopmental conditions to provide an evidence-based practical guide on autism assessment while considering the possibility of diagnostic overshadowing. This book covers co-morbid conditions where autism may be hard to recognise and there are challenges around selecting, administering and interpreting standard assessments for autism and making diagnoses. These conditions may also mean it is harder to identify the most appropriate intervention approach. Each chapter also seeks to share the voices and experience of a young person and their family. There is focus on the challenges experienced in accessing and navigating the assessment process and how an autism diagnosis may have helped with support for the young person. The aim of this book is to raise awareness of the importance of recognizing and supporting autism and to share clinical expertise and knowledge in how to approach the assessment of autism when considering coexisting conditions.
