What part did processes of abstraction play in modern architecture in the context of cultural, technical and social developments? Anselm Treichler explores this question by analysing and re-evaluating modernist designs and buildings. His reflections focus on the close links between, on the one hand, new materials and constructions made of iron, steel, concrete and glass, and on the other hand, between technical innovations and design concepts.
