"'This book illuminates in significant new ways a fundamental part of Aquinas's metaphysics, with far-reaching implications for interpretations of Aquinas's philosophy and philosophical theology. In the process, it also sheds light on an important debate in contemporary metaphysics, over the nature of material constitution. Brown's excellent historical exposition and philosophical analysis enable Aquinas's own thought to be an influence on the current discussion' Eleonore Stump, St. Louis University. 'A superb piece of textual scholarship and philosophical analysis' Fr. Theodore Vitali, C.P., St. Louis University, MO"
