Testimonials“This much-needed book effectively documents the essential requirement for equity in medicine, and in doing so it is not just an essential read for students entering healthcare, but it will also be valuable to existing frontline healthcare staff who serve diverse racial and ethnic populations, public health administrators and, critically, healthcare policy leads. Unlike other texts, this book does not just present the scale of the challenge when it comes to race, ethnicity and health, it also outlines clear solutions to that task.” Testimonial by Professor Habib Naqvi MBE, Chief Executive, NHS Race and Health Observatory"Anti-Racist Medicine is timely and prescient" Testimonial by Professor Sir Aziz Sheikh OBE, Head of Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford"I have enjoyed reading this very comprehensive book, which puts forward a vision for anti-racist medicine - both for our patients and the public, but also for the staff who work in our NHS." Testimonial by Professor Kamila Hawthorne MBE, Chair, Royal College of General Practitioners Council"Anti-Racist Medicine is a powerful, comprehensive, and well referenced account of racism as experienced by patients and healthcare professionals." Testimonial by Dame Parveen Kumar OBE, Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Education, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London“I strongly recommend Anti-Racist Medicine to individuals and institutions alike, so that we can offer care that is not only clinically sound but also attentive to the cultural contexts and lived experiences of the patients we serve.” Testimonial by Dr Lade Smith CBE, President, Royal College of Psychiatrists"Anti-Racist Medicine stands as a testament to understanding racism as a determinant of health. It sets out the concepts in detail, dissecting the pathways by which racism leads to health outcomes in each specialty and, importantly, describes what we should do, both individually and at a system level. It is essential reading for all health professionals, not only for those interested in the topic." Testimonial by Professor Delan Devakumar, Lead for The Lancet Series on racism, xenophobia, discrimination and health"Ultimately, Anti-Racist Medicine is an urgent call to action to ensure that all healthcare workers and people who use the NHS have equal opportunities to improve their workplace experience and health outcomes respectively." Testimonial by Professor Ranee Thakar, President, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists"This book is long overdue as a text that lays out the history and the science of race, and then crucially what that means for our patients and our workforce." Testimonial by Camilla Kingdon, Consultant Paediatrician, Past President, Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health"An urgent and necessary contribution to anti-racist medicine."Testimonial by Ramesh Mehta CBE, Founder and President of the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin"This book provides an in-depth, evidence-based and balanced overview of the current landscape and provides helpful overviews of the three key areas of anti-racist medicine: the theoretical foundations/key concepts; the implications of racism on clinical care and health outcomes and finally a synthesis of approaches that could be adopted in the future to start to address the current health inequities." Testimonial by Dr Mark Lillicrap, Professor of Medical Education Practice and Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist, University of Cambridge"This comprehensive and thoroughly researched text takes the reader on a journey through the history of medicine which systematically disentangles genetics, race science, and the political and cultural forces which have shaped medicine and health related research." Testimonial by Professor Rohini Mathur, Chair of Health Data Science, Queen Mary University of London
