STEVEN SNAPE is Senior Lecturer in Egyptian Archaeology at the University of Liverpool, Director of Archaeological Collections in Liverpool University's Garstang Museum of Archaeology and Director of its excavations at the Ramesside fortress-town of Zawiyet Umm el-Rakham.
