The 1940s were a pivotal decade in the history of the American labor movement. SALLY M. MILLER is Professor of History at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. She specializes in American immigration history and women and labor issues. Miller is the author of several books including From Prairie to Prison: The Life of Social Activist Kate Richards O'Hare (1993), The Ethnic Press(Greenwood Press, 1987) and wed Liberationeenwood, 1981).DANIEL A. CORNFORD is Associate Professor of History at San Jose State University, California. His special interests are American labor history and California social history./e He is the editor of Working People of California (1995), an associate editor of The Emma Goldman Papers (microfilm edition, 1992), and the author of Workers and Dissent in the Redwood Empire (1987).
