Dr  Abdallah Al Khudair  writes in these memoirs about his experience of being sent to the Comoros, a group of islands at the northern end of the Mozambique Channel of the Indian Ocean, between Madagascar and the southeast African mainland, and the only Muslim-majority country in Southern Africa.

A raw and unorthodox memoir recounting the experience of a young Saudi man who spent four years teaching Arabic in the Comoros Islands off the east coast of Africa. There he faced long months away from his family, and the culture shock of going from the heart of the Arab world to its most isolated outpost.

Living in the shadow of a volcano, surviving a brush with malaria, and alternating between moments of inspiring discovery and bouts of deep depression, he also forges lifelong friendships with people who help him to over come his deepest doubts.
