Dr. Leighton has 15 years’ experience working in engineering, specialising in automotive powertrain development. His expertise lies in advancing methodologies for reliability, validation and testing. Currently at AVL List GmbH, he plays a key role in planning and delivering technical projects focused on transmission and e-axle systems, while also coordinating research initiatives. Throughout his career, Michael has collaborated with numerous OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, supporting projects from initial feasibility studies through to start of production. His academic foundation includes powertrain tribology, metrology and applied statistics, which underpin his analytical and problem-solving approach to engineering challenges. Michael is a Certified Reliability Engineer (ASQ), a committee member of the IMechE Reliability Engineering working group, a member of two SAE committees, two IEEE committees and an IEC standard working group. He is also a visiting fellow of Loughborough University in the subject of Validation and Reliability.
