Beskrivning
This book explores Academic Social Responsibility (ASR) within Humanities education, examining its history, theoretical foundations and practical applications predominantly in India. Drawing from a collaborative project that took place within SPARC (the Government of India's Scheme for the Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration), the authors argue how ASR can be embedded directly into curricular and pedagogical practices, particularly in relation to marginalised and indigenous languages.Through interdisciplinary perspectives spanning folklore studies, anthropology, linguistics, translation studies, and South Asian studies, the volume demonstrates how ASR functions as conjunctural practice, responsive to local realities and educational contexts. The book's unique contribution lies in its focus on collaborative translation as a vehicle for ASR, featuring translations from four endangered languages of West Bengal: Nepali, Kudmali, Lepcha, and Bodo. It explores the implications for minority languages and Comparative Literature pedagogy, as curriculum democratisation takes place in respect of the rights of linguistic minorities. This will be essential reading for postgraduate students, researchers, and faculty in English Literature, Comparative Literature, Translation Studies, Education, Cultural Studies, Anthropology, and Sociology. It will also interest educators, policymakers, and activists committed to decolonising curricula and advancing cultural preservation.
