He joined the ITU Mining Engineering Department in 1978 and was appointed full-time professor in 1989. After serving as visiting professor for Colorado School of Mines, USA and Witwatersrand University, SA, he returned to ITU. He has published over 100 mechanized mining and tunneling technology papers.Turkish Tunneling Society board member Hanifi Copur holds a B.Sc. from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and a Ph.D from Colorado School of Mines, USA. From 1995 to 1999, he served as research engineer for the Excavation Engineering and Earth Mechanics Institute of the Colorado School of Mines. He then joined the ITU Mining Engineering Department as academician.
