FRANCINE D'AMICO is Visiting Research Fellow in the Peace Studies Program at Cornell University. She has written on women at war and the combat controversy. She is an officer of the Feminist Theory and Gender Studies Section in the International Studies Association.PETER R. BECKMAN is Professor of Political Science at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. He has published the textbook World Politics in the Twentieth Century (1984) and The Nuclear Predicament (2nd ed., 1992). Beckman and D'Amico have edited a companion volume to this work entitled Women, Gender, and World Politics: Perspectives, Policies, Prospects (Bergin & Garvey, 1994).
