Through a new research initiative, the Albertina has turned its attention to the women artists in its collection. Spanning whole epochs, from the fifteenth century to the 1970s, the works on show range from medieval woodcuts produced in convents to early feminist pieces. The collection of Duke Albert and Archduchess Marie Christine already contained numerous drawings and prints by women, as well as works issued by women publishers. Yet it was only in the contemporary era that women artists became a deliberate focus of acquisition. With essays on the works and lives of around 140 women. Artists: Anni Albers, Gesina ter Borch, Alexandra Exter, Madge Gill, Eva Hesse, Angelica Kauffman, Kiki Kogelnik, Käthe Kollwitz, Archduchess Marie Christine, Emilie Mediz-Pelikan, Maria Sibylla Merian, Joan Mitchell, Meret Oppenheim, Geertruydt Roghman, Diana Scultori, Suzanne Valadon, Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun
