Two by Two

Although she secretly longed to write fiction since childhood, Lisa Lowe Stauffer first wrote her way through journalism, marketing, consulting, travel writing, and poetry.  Her work has appeared in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Miami Herald, Literary Mama, Stories for Children, and numerous business websites, brochures, newsletters, press releases and magazine articles. Today, Lisa writes picture books and novels from Roswell, Georgia, and is an active volunteer with the Southern Breeze region of SCBWI.Angelika Scudamore is based in South London. She’s always loved drawing, and her earliest memory is of drawing with her dad. As a child, Angelika was obsessed with Beatrix Potter’s beautiful illustrations of cute, fluffy bunnies and animals. Angelika carries a sketchbook everywhere she goes so she can jot down ideas as they come to her. She loves the hustle and bustle of the city and stopping off at small coffee shops, where she gathers inspiration from the people and atmosphere. Angelika loves creating cute, fun characters.

Preschool-Gr. 2. At first glance, Two By Two appears to be a telling of the Noah's Ark story. It isn't! The book is a rhyming tale of two bored monkeys on the ark. They are mischievous and playful. They interact with well-known animals such as bears and tigers. They play ring toss with the caribou and do an Anaconda limbo. At the end of the book Noah opens the ark doors and all the animals leave, except for the monkeys, who are finally tired. This book is an animal adventure in board book format. The only biblical aspects of the book are the fact that the animals are on the ark, the dove returns, and Noah is in charge. The illustrations are large and colorful. The rhymes are contagious, and the book will delight very young children. --Ellen Tilman
