This New Testament Greek Handbook provides a clear one-volume presentation of the possibilities and limitations of using Cognitive Linguistics (CL) to advance the study of New Testament Greek. The volume is arranged in three parts: (1) Contextualization: Situating Cognitive Linguistics in New Testament Studies; (2) Theory and Practice: Using Cognitive Linguistics for New Testament Greek Study; and (3) Gains and Gaps: Critically Engaging Cognitive Linguistics for New Testament Greek Study. The introductory chapters in Part 1 help readers grasp definitions, common elements, assumptions, issues, and debates in CL and situate it within the broader field of linguistics, New Testament Greek, and New Testament studies. The chapters in Part 2, which is the bulk of the handbook, provide useful and relevant discussions of key topics in CL. These chapters all follow the same structure of devoting two-thirds to a key topic in CL, in which they address definitions, history, methodology, current trends, and desiderata; and one-third to a worked example from a NT text to make the theory concrete and demonstrate its clear and easy application. The chapters in Part 3 complete the handbook with two critiques, one from a Greek linguist who does not share the assumptions of CL and the other from a traditional grammarian or exegete who does not use CL, to assess the strengths and weaknesses of CL as an approach to the Greek of the New Testament.
