A celebrated lawyer, translator and poet, Sir William Jones (1746–94) wrote prolifically and authoritatively on politics, comparative linguistics and oriental literature. These thirteen volumes, first published in 1807, contain Jones' complete writings, including seminal works such as The Principles of Government (1782), 'On the Hindus' (1786), and Sacontalá (1789).
