The United Irishmen

This book is a study of the United Irish movement of the 1790s, which launched a tradition of revolutionary republicanism in Ireland. Nancy Curtin shows how class and religious tensions contributed to the ultimate failure of the United Irish, but at the same time highlights the successes of the movement. She places this analysis within the context of revolution and counter-revolution in late eighteenth-century Ireland.
