The stories…. The analogues. It was quite interactive, which is a big plus.As a realtor for over 30 years, I’ve read several books and attended a slew of seminars on presentations. As for as books go, this was definitely fun to read, and easy to absorb. If you’re new at making presentations, it’s a wealth of information. It is a great source of reference to always go back to, and pick up tips along the way. Accolades to Denise for thinking outside the box when writing this!- Cori MintzerCicchella, Teach, Train, TransformFrom start to finish Cicchella gives readers a well-crafted manual for aspiring and practicing trainers that draws on decades of delivering content, honing her own instructional skills and understanding how people learn. Teach, Train, and Transform is the path Cicchella has carved out for readers that passes on what she has learned with passion and energy and a deep commitment to getting us ready to follow her lead into the classroom. It’s a powerful through line woven into each of the chapters.Cicchella covers her subject end-to-end and step-by-step, carefully. She leaves nothing to chance and practices what she preaches. From the outset Cicchella works to empower readers with heavy doses of “yes we can” as she explains in detail what success looks like, focusing on what matter from the inside out—it’s all in our heads…and hearts. The text is tightly written and the content readily accessible to readers. Another strength is Cicchella’s focus on mechanics, the how to implement each concept, and the frequent use of exercises that provide opportunities to practice and reinforce learning. The use of relevant illustrative vignettes at the end of each chapter gives life to lessons learned.Cicchella’s main themes are readily apparent and resurface throughout the text.· Build self-confidence. This is the heart of first two lengthy chapters and then again in Chapter 7 are about the importance of reimagining how we see ourselves. Together they account for almost one third of the text, which again underscores their importance in her recipe for success; it all starts in our head and hearts.· Be authentic, create connections. Chapters 4, 5, and 6 are first rate introductions to the importance of understanding your audience, but in my view more importantly how to use stories and our own personalities to engage from the start. The importance of displaying humility is another way to connect with the audience and …” Chapter 8 on “waking up your class” addresses every instructor’s nightmare.Be prepared. Chapter 4 on the uses of AI and Chapters 9 through 12 provide important insights into developing content and then deliver it with pointers about rehearsing and dressing, managing Q&A (I liked the comments of dealing with hostile questions) and then refocusing and clearing your head as you walk through the door.Cicchella’s book is a valuable and refreshing contribution to literature on training. Who hasn’t had multiple instructors or watched cringe worthy presenters. The first two chapters in particular are important because they underscore that how we see ourselves and the presence we build are as critical as substantive expertise in evolving into superhero trainers. The detailed “how to” and the exercises illustrate how to bring those traits into the room.Indeed,.As an additional antidote readers might well have welcomed seeing more of Cicchella more visible in here right in the text. For example, I found only two references to what she actually offers in roles as instructor and train the trainers.; I turned to LinkedIn to see the breadth of her career and course offerings Also, readers might well have learned from seeing Chicchella’s experiences—good and not so od replacing some of the vignettes. Finally, the chapters on developing content and visuals are necessary painted with a broad brush and adding a bibliography built around industry accepted graphics, including maps and charts, and the mechanics of actually build a course (goals and objective; content and flow) would have been useful.- Jay Grusin, PhD
