René Chartrand was born in Montreal and educated in Canada, the United States and the Bahamas. A senior curator with Canada's National Historic Sites for nearly three decades, he is now a freelance writer and historical consultant. He has written numerous articles and books including almost 30 Osprey titles. He lives in Gatineau, Quebec, with his wife and two sons. Bill Younghusband was born in 1936. He was interested in all things military since childhood, and in 1954 he joined the Life Guards and saw service in Egypt and Cyprus. Bill was a respected military illustrator of many years experience, and has illustrated numerous Osprey books on 18th- and 19th-century subjects.
