Redstone Park of China

This book presents one of the most outstanding and beautiful red bed sandstone landscapes in the world, which was nominated as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2004 and included into the UNESCO's World Heritage List as a prominent part of the serial property of "China Danxia" in 2011. China Danxia is the name given to landscapes developed on continental red terrigenous sedimentary beds influenced by endogenous forces (including uplift) and exogenous forces (including weathering and erosion). Danxiashan is characterised by spectacular red cliffs, predominantly Cretaceous, and by a range of erosional landforms, including dramatic natural pillars, towers, green subtropical vegetation, ravines, valleys and waterfalls. Danxia, which roughly translates into "red cloud's glow", is a fitting name for a geological and geomorphic phenomenon that is based on a long record of geological history, a distinct development of landscapes and landforms, and the presence of beautiful natural and cultural sites,demonstrating the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature.
