Unique fusion of architectural and development criticism and poetry. Cutting edge innovative poetry.Murakami could be considered third generation Tish poet. She works with members of the two older generations of Tish poets such as Fred Wah and Steve Collis. The Vancouver poetry school, Tish, has its roots in the work of Charles Olson and as such has lead to the recognition and popularity of Tish poets in Buffalo, New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco.Murakami continues, here, her investigation into Vancouver begun in her first book The Invisibility Exhibit. In Rebuild she looks at dwelling in Vancouver. Her past is dominated by the dispossession of her family during the internment of the Japanese is WW II, but the city's past is dominated by the dispossession of the First Nations people of their traditional lands. Currently another dispossession has a grip on the city as the real estate boom and investors have created thousands of Condo units in the city, 17,000 of which remain empty.
