This book offers methodological reflections and practical strategies for engaging autistic and neurodivergent people in qualitative research, from project design and data collection to dissemination. Drawing on case studies from Italy, Canada, and the United States, it presents concrete examples of collaboration with autistic and disabled communities, colleagues, and participants. Written by an anthropologist and a sociologist, the text advances a co-productive, inclusive, and accessible approach to research, organized around three guiding principles: flexibility, creativity, and trust. M. Ariel Cascio is Assistant Professor in the Center for Bioethics and Social Justice and the Department of Medicine at Michigan State University. They are the co-editor of Research Involving Participants with Cognitive Disability and Differences: Ethics, Autonomy, Inclusion, and Innovation (2019). Alice Scavarda is Assistant Professor in Sociology at the University of Torino, where she teaches Sociology of Health and Illness and Qualitative Methods. She is co-chair of Graphic Medicine Europe.
