Producing Women examines the ways femininity is produced through new media. Michele White considers how women are constructed, produce themselves as subjects, form vital production cultures on sites like Etsy, and deploy technological processes to reshape their identities and digital characteristics. She studies the means through which women market traditional female roles, are viewed, and produce and restructure their gendered, raced, eroticized, and sexual identities. Michele White is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Tulane University. She teaches Internet and new media studies, film and television studies, visual culture studies, science fiction and technology literature, gender and queer theory, and critical race and postcolonial studies. She is the author of Buy It Now: Lessons from eBay (Duke University Press, 2012) and The Body and the Screen: Theories of Internet Spectatorship (MIT Press, 2006).
